Soren Hughes Joins DeSantis Landscapes as Design Lead

Wisconsin native Soren Hughes says that among his favorite things since arriving in Oregon is the state’s ecologically diverse environment.

A graduate in Landscape Architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Soren has found a role at DeSantis that combines his interest in protecting and regenerating the natural world with approaches that reverse soil depletion and biodiversity decline and improve groundwater quality.

Currently, Soren is implementing design strategies for a project in the Tualatin Watershed, providing design input for stormwater management grant funding, and collaborating on bioswales and rain gardens to help ensure a free-flowing local creek, manage erosion, and improve the natural habitat of a critical tributary.

“This is an exciting opportunity for us as a company to build on previous work that we have done on sensitive riparian projects and bring our whole team of environmental and horticultural experts together for a coordinated and environmentally-sound solution,” said Soren.

Soren chose landscape architecture and urban planning as a way to make a real difference in the world and says working at DeSantis is an ideal pursuit. “I’m enjoying the immediate and positive impact of our projects on the local community, and I especially like helping our team prepare design frameworks for conservation and soil health. It’s exciting to be part of a multi-talented group of people completely invested in inspiring others and improving the world we live in.”
