“Eliminating waste is everyone’s job,” says DeSantis Landscapes project manager, Russ Lund, one of a trio of construction experts running the company’s big landscape jobs.
Russ joined DeSantis in 2006, and says that high quality landscape construction – which encompasses green infrastructure (bioswales and vegetated water quality facilities), grading, hardscapes, and plant and irrigation systems installation – accounts for a significant amount of the company’s success and reputation as an experienced team player, especially in the high-performing, fast-track industrial segment.
Rick Moisa, landscape construction project manager in Salem has been with DeSantis since 1996. “I stepped away for military service with the National Guard but always knew I’d be back,” says Rick. “Character, work ethic, honor and integrity – how we walk the talk and serve and take care of others – will always be the ground we build our reputation on.”
Rick’s crews, like all DeSantis crews, benefit from the company’s Field First training program, where knowledge is handed down through generations of coaching and mentoring, and supplemented by continuing education and training.
Travis Hagen joined DeSantis in 2019, with years of industry experience and says being the last sub to come in on a job can mean inheriting delays. “Sometimes, we just have to pivot. We have to handle the blind spots in the chain and eliminate slippage without sacrificing productivity.”
“The complexity of massive landscape construction projects makes workflow efficiencies easier said than done,” says Travis. “Solid budgets upfront and managing surprises are always important. But savvy general contractors understand that a well-organized project team makes all the difference, increasing performance value and saving cost every step of the way.”
Construction leaders like Rick, Russ and Travis embody the company’s fundamental values: build trust, take decisive action on important problems, and continuously improve and deliver high-quality results.
